What are you using to read the encoder now?  Is is a step/direction 
drive like a Gecko 320?
If so, there may be problems with electrical noise between the servo 
drive and the computer.
Without a software or hardware encoder function reading the full (A B Z) 
encoder output,
this probably will not work.  The EMC home to index function works by 
setting the encoder
counter to zero when index-enable is true and the index pulse is seen.  
You can't just wire up
the index signal ONLY and have this scheme work, as far as I know.
