1. It looks like it might work as is, provided I can figure out how to set it up to make a measurement. 2. It says in the mimeographed at fax resolution docs that come with it, on page 6 which describes how to update the firmware, and which I assume needs a windows box, and no cd accompanies it, that I am supposed to download "DfuSe USB Device Firmware Upgrade" from:
<http://www.st.com/stonline/products/support/micro/files/um0412.zip> and install it, with updating instructions available at: <http://www.st.com/mcu/familiesdocs-110.html#Application%20Note> Then connect oscilloscope with pc, press and hold the top >| button, switch on power via a really teeny slide switch on the top edge until oscilloscope displays: "Please connect to USB host" and "DS0201 Device Firmware Upgrade Ver 2.0" Its not clear if those messages come from the unzipped updater running on the PC or what. The first link is not a valid link, but wget did get the 2nd one, so I have been able to find the zip file by a google search, but I doubt if even wine would run the updater SW because, from dmesg when its plugged in: usb 1-7.4.4: new full-speed USB device number 19 using ehci_hcd hub 1-7.4:1.0: port 4 not reset yet, waiting 10ms usb 1-7.4.4: default language 0x0409 usb 1-7.4.4: udev 19, busnum 1, minor = 18 usb 1-7.4.4: New USB device found, idVendor=0483, idProduct=5720 usb 1-7.4.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 1-7.4.4: Product: STM32 Mass Storage usb 1-7.4.4: Manufacturer: STMicroelectronics usb 1-7.4.4: SerialNumber: 000000000001 usb 1-7.4.4: usb_probe_device usb 1-7.4.4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice usb 1-7.4.4: adding 1-7.4.4:1.0 (config #1, interface 0) usbserial_generic 1-7.4.4:1.0: usb_probe_interface usbserial_generic 1-7.4.4:1.0: usb_probe_interface - got id usb-storage 1-7.4.4:1.0: usb_probe_interface usb-storage 1-7.4.4:1.0: usb_probe_interface - got id scsi13 : usb-storage 1-7.4.4:1.0 drivers/usb/core/inode.c: creating file '019' scsi 13:0:0:0: Direct-Access e-Design DSO Flash Disk 1.0 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2 sd 13:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg6 type 0 sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] Unsupported sector size 1. sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] 0 512-byte logical blocks: (0 B/0 B) sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] 1-byte physical blocks sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] Write Protect is off sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] Mode Sense: 03 00 00 00 sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] No Caching mode page present sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] Assuming drive cache: write through sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] Unsupported sector size 1. sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] No Caching mode page present sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] Assuming drive cache: write through sd 13:0:0:0: [sdf] Attached SCSI removable disk Sector size 1 byte? I will check, in a make xconfig, if that ID rings any bells. If someone who has access to a winderz box & bought one of these so we could compare notes, I would appreciate it. ATM, unplugging it from the USB hub changes to green "USB" in the upper right corner of the screen into a battery charge state indicator, which shows about 80%. And I haven't figured out how to change the timebase to something slow enough I can watch the hum from my finger. It also appears the back plate insert is black anodized brushed alu, but I've not determined if it is common to the probes ground lead, yet. Pig in a poke? Not determined yet. But since I do have both files now, I'll report back if and when I know anything more. Cheers, Gene -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
