I think you are off by a factor of 10 here, also 12K RPM is a bit racy for the 
family sedan...

So with 6000 rpm max speed (100 RPS) for full accuracy thats only 36 KHz
for 1 degree timing resolution, achievable with Atom MBs and maybe some 
faster ARM systems.
