It is good to hear a differnt point of view ;-) > One thing that I feel makes a big difference when it comes to SSD's > is the quality of the drives. They never reported a fault you just suddenly found files disappearing or being horribly corrupted. I am now running a pair of hybrid drives in a mirrored RAID array. My lathe runs on a 8G CF card and up until a year ago my network server ran on a CF card as the main boot drive with zero problems. The server now has a SSD which has been operating fine for about a year running 24/7. For reliability CF cards are probably slightly better as they generally use SLC memory rather than MLC. On the down side CF cards are slow as molasses. > I LOVE the super speed of that > machine, I've got the 7200rpm high Bit drives on other machines and > it's slow as 80 weight oil on new years day by comparison. SSDs do make a huge difference in speed. That is why I kept trying with the SSDs. Hybrid drives are a little faster than standard drives but to be honest I am not sure if they are worth the extra cost.
