The easiest Step 1 in troubleshooting any machine that has some identical 
components, when one of those components is not working properly, is to swap 
the wonky component with one that is working correctly.

If the problem follows the component, the problem most likely *is* the 
component. Replace it with a new or known good used one.

If the problem follows the component *and* the component you put in place of 
the bad acting one also starts acting bad... the problem was most likely caused 
elsewhere and you've possibly damaged the good component. Oops. ;-)

Do you have any gear reduction in that system or is it belt drive to the 
spinning ball nut? If it's gears, I'd check the gears.
