Could the oil seal be incorporated into the bearing replacement by giving 
the outer race of the bearing a coat of whatever they use on the outside of 
an oil seal and putting in a bearing with a decent lip type seal?  Then I'd 
just run it full of the oil by adding a spring loaded lid oil cup just 
below the top bearing such that if the cup was full of oil, you were 
assured that at least the top bearings ball or roller cage was running in 
it. Unless of course it runs fast enough to heat the oil (and by inference 
expand & leak out the top) by viscosity losses.  Below 5000 revs, I can't 
believe that would be a problem.  Another thought would be to machine an o-
ring groove in the bearing pocket to seal the OD of the bearing, making the 
future replacement of the bearing much easier done.
