This is why I have decided that I will probably do a Harrison M300
retrofit as my next lathe. This is partly because the "classical"
lathe arrangement better suits the sort of work I do.

Bizarrely there is a Harrison M280 at work that was converted _from_
CNC to manual by the training school apprentices several years ago.
