Simpler?   Boot one of the install images from DVD or flash drive then
select "install" from the menu.  Later move your files.  This method
requires almost zero understanding of how the boot process works because it
is all automated.


I noticed a question about TRIM.   With a modern version like Ubuntu 16.04
this is automatic but I think people here are using some very old Linux
distributions from the pre-TRIM days.   Best just to Google "TRIM" for your
version of linux.
