This is very good to know Andy, but it begs the question of why the heck
isn't this relationship noted in such plain language in the pid man
page?

On the clamp ring front, the superglue gave way while boring the first
hole thru it for the mounting bolts. Then after remounting it on the
lathe to fine tune the fits, I found the rings ID was about 2mm's too
small, so by the time I got it to fit the spindles flange, and expanded
the cut for clearing the edge of the bronze spindle bushing by the same
amount,I found it would lock the system up tight. Inspection with a
strong light disclosed a sand molding error in the spindle housings
lower half casting that made a projection nearly 1/8" high, at the
bottom of the lower half of the spindle bushing, using up all the
clearance between my ring and it. Half an hours work with a 12" mill
bastard restored enough clearance to make it fit, but it was then 20:00
locally and I hadn't fed either of us dinner. Thats done now, but I'll
have to make the clamping draw bolt tomorrow. While its mounted to the
backing plate since half the screw heads are now carved away for
clearance to the edge of the bushing. So they are in there till they
work loose as theres no longer a complete enough hex socket to let an
Allen wrench be used to adequately tighten them.

Its been a long enough day for a Monday already.

Thanks Andy.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
