I may see if I can make one in steel, with bearings. A useful source of components might be bicycle 2-speed hubs. These seem to use some very special metallurgy, just consider the torque that they contain when a fat bloke stands on the pedals. We re-arranged the internals of them to make geared hubs for our Robotwars robot, and never had a single failure in 6 series. I don't know if all the ring-gears are the same tooth-count. Ideally you would want them not to be (I think you get a better ratio with the +1 in the ring rather than in the planet) -- atp "A motorcycle is a bicycle with a pandemonium attachment and is designed for the especial use of mechanical geniuses, daredevils and lunatics." — George Fitch, Atlanta Constitution Newspaper, 1916 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Check out the vibrant tech community on one of the world's most engaging tech sites, Slashdot.org! http://sdm.link/slashdot _______________________________________________ Emc-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
