Yes, the right hand pix has very little effect. There is little to be 
gained there. However, longitudinal effectiveness can be enhanced by 
makeing a multiturn coil, where every "turn" is a full circle and you 
have room in the core opening to pass several turns of the wire.

And at $4.95 a bead, that site has a huge profit margin.
