Spiral flute taps for blind holes. Spiral point taps for through holes. For aluminum, I use uncoated, or bright HSS taps.
I have been doing alot of m2 & 4-40 holes with rigid mounted taps, none broken! All blind holes. The difficult part is figuring out how far the spindle overshoots (rotation) for reversal. On my milling machine, I have it down to half of a rotation overshoot, using the braling on my Yaskawa VFD. --J.
