Let me know if there are questions. The pattern in C channel is
repeating (transition 1-6 and then 7-12, 13-18 and 19-24). There are 4
such pieces per full motor revolution and that is 8-pole motor, so
there are 4 electrical revolutions per full motor revolution, which
means that each of those pattern pieces correspond to 1 electrical
revolution. And each of those pattern pieces has 6 different stages in
it just like with Hall sensors.
And no, it does not need to be sampled very often. Just like with Hall
sensors - that info is needed only on startup to get the phase
alignment. The difference is that Hall sensor signal is obtained when
motor is at standstill. For the C channel the motor needs to move at
least 4 encoder pulses to determine the section of the pattern. But
the docs in that forum thread tell that encoder is emulating motion of
8 pulses forth and back for this exact purpose.
