There has been work on updated versions outside and inside the linuxcnc project.
Hans has uploaded a GTK/python3 version to a branch in the project.
I have a Qt version in development in a branch in the project.

I wish I had known work was being done on the GTK version - I would have based
my work on it rather then the python2 version.
I can't speak for Hans but my intention was to add it to linuxcnc.
If Hans wants to include his version (likely) I will rebase my qt work on that.

I have no objection in principle, but don’t recall how it is packaged.

Is it currently actively maintained?

A sub-set of ncam lathe functionality is offered by.
