Here at the University of South Carolina we have a similar program in place, also funded by the VAWA monies. This has been a gradually evolving effort over several years which has resulted in policy development, training, and a cooperative effort involving a multitude of on-campus and off-campus players.
Something which the Office of Sexual Health and Violence Prevention offered this past summer which was very successful was a luncheon hosting representatives of law enforcement and the judicial system in our local area along with our broad campus coalition of folks involved in the response to sexual and relationship violence. Attendance was very strong and, as a relationship building effort, the luncheon was very successful. We're really proud of this program and I personally believe that it truly has helped to reduce the repercussions of sexual and relationship violence. The hope is that continuing the efforts will actually reduce the number of offenses. Key to that part of the effort is male leadership and role modeling.
