If that's true, you've adjusted some other setting improperly, although I cannot think of what it might be. Try stopping tbird, restarting, then go into the config editor and sort on the "Status" column. Carefully examine everything you've changed, and if it has anything to do with formatting set it back to the default. Then restart and try again.
