First, don't panic. I'm asking this kind-of scary question in order to
foster a discussion, *not* because I expect Enigmail will have any kind
of problems. But nothing seems to get a mailing list quite as active as
a little fear for the future. So, take a deep breath, remind yourself
that it'll all be fine, and --

Mozilla has deprecated XUL, the widget toolkit that
Enigmail uses to draw windows, buttons, scrollbars,
toolbars, and every other thing. XUL-based extensions
still work in Firefox and Thunderbird, but Mozilla
is hoping to get rid of it within the next year or so.

Now that I've dropped that bomb, time for my question: is there anything
that you, the users, would like to see overhauled? We're going to have
to move away from XUL at some point in the next year or two, and when
that happens it'll require extensive changes to the codebase. So if
there's anything you've ever held off on because "wow, that would
require a lot of work," now might be a good idea to pitch it out.

Feel free to shoot for the moon. The worst we'll do is say no. :)

To start things off, here's my contribution: what would people think
about abandoning GnuPG in favor of moving to OpenPGP.js, a Javascript
implementation of OpenPGP? This would make installing Enigmail vastly
simpler, as we'd no longer have a dependency on a third-party
application. Also, we'd only have to support one codebase, instead of
dealing with people who were using GPGTools, GPG4Win, distro-provided
GnuPG, and more.
