Hi Carsten, thanks for answering. Playing with both e16 and e17 made me like e16 more than e17. But e16 has some 'features' I cannot get to work. For example: it is possible to create a systray using the menu's. The result is a little empty box. I have not the slightest clue how I can use it or fill with icons to start applications with (like a e17 shelf). I bet there must be some configuration file. If there is some example or description about this, I'd be very happy. I found some questions on the net about this, and the responses made me conclude it is necessary to install gnome or so. I hope this is not the case... > > - e16 seems to support convenient user configurable menu's whereas e17 seems > > to lack it. What I want to do is to make a menu with some submenu's. Looking for a way to activate it, I came across this key binding. 'Show menu....'. But it does nothing and I don't know what it is supposed to do. Of course, I could make a custom menu and call it favorite.menu; your reply gives me enough hints to start with. > > the favorites menu is configurable by the user - it shows the list of favorite > apps to launch. you can create "apps" that run any command you like - create a > new desktop file. there's configu dialogs in the apps menu under personal app > launchers. you can configure the favorite applications list from the "favorite > applications" gui dialog (select what is in it and the order). > > if you truly want a custom nested menu - then the system applications menu is > for that. it allows u to select which menu to use - you can create your own > but > its an xml file u have to make and its a pain - almost no one needs such a > thing so its manual - no worse than fvwm. this can define a list of desktop > files like favorites as well as categories and more. haha, no, being used to fvwm makes that I can deal with a lot of that stuff. Dont be afraid of frightening me off. thanks, Rudd ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Don't let slow site performance ruin your business.
