This is the bug we agreed is in X: loading an .Xmodmap while X is running causes a long freeze which seems dependent on how many clients you have running. The issue I'm describing only happens with newer enlightenment on 2 different machines, and does not happen with old enlightenment or cinamon. Once xmodmap is loaded very early on, I can type éèéèéèéè all day without issues. If I upgrade to E 0.21, then it hangs badly after a few characters. Is there a chance E 0.21 does something different than other WMs and in turn it still triggers a bug in X? > > https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/122151/xmodmap-problems-and-inconsistencies-with-more-than-4-alternative-symbols-per-ke > https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/X_KeyBoard_extension#xmodmap > > I had the same issue as you, but I've moved to my own custom XKB config now. > Works much better, although I lose the ability to alter my keys on the fly. If the bug is in X and is WONTFIX, then I'll look at other ways to change my keys though, but so far the bug I described has only been in newer E. I'm still curious if Raster can reproduce it with his top of tree build, or not. Marc -- "A mouse is a device used to point at the xterm you want to type in" - A.S.R.
