First, I want to say I just found entangle. (It could really use
some Google SEO love.)

Out of interest, if you remember, what sort of keywords did you try
searching for which failed to find it.

linux canon dslr live view
linux dslr live view
linux dslr remote control
linux dslr tethering

They all hit references to gphoto2, but nothing on entangle.

Mostly I think it is a case of having to get more people blogging
about it, to drive links to the website. I should also submit it
to various free software application directories like Freshmeat
or Ohloh

Freshmeat should help.
I've put up a public post on G+ about it. Hopefully, that'll help a bit.

I'm realy glad to see it, as I thought there wasn't any way to get
live view on Linux.

Glad it is useful to you. Could you tell me what camera you've been
using with Entangle - I primarily test with my own Nikon D90, so am
always interested in positive/negative feedback wrt other camera
models people have tried.

Canon 50d. Works just fine. The only niggles I've seen are that the shutter release and live view icons aren't obvious (I thought the shutter release icon with the gears was for setup/preferences, and the live view was some sort of zoom); and that in live view, the progress bar kind of flickers as data is continuously transferred from the camera.

I would like to offer a suggestion for a feature (I can add this to
the bug tracking system if you'd like): onion skinning. Basically,
display a reduced-opacity version of the last shot taken over the
live view. This would be invaluable in doing stop-motion animation,
as it's a basic technique for getting a feel for how far you've
moved something.

That's an interesting idea, which I ought to be able to implement
without too much difficulty. Could you add it to the bug tracker
so that I remember it.

Thanks! This, BTW, would set entangle apart, as there is not a single program for Linux that will allow for live view and onion skinning with a DSLR (although there are a few for webcams), and no freeware programs that do that on any platform.
I'll add it to the tracker.

Paul
