FWIW -- I've noticed this problem only after upgrading to 4.3 -- no
troubles with prior versions. Flip to the Search Log tab while running a
compass search and you can see just how slowly the data is being collected
-- you can almost increment the numbers in your head. Disable
redirection, and the numbers fly by in a blur.

Running on 2008R2 here, so I was going to try the vmware OVA to see if
things improved there. In "copious spare time"... sounds like I may just
want to open a ticket instead.

Sylvain,

Did you had the problem before as well, I mean for example with versions
3.3, 4.0, 4.1, 4.2? Just asking because I've seen your name for many years
I think on here in the newsgroup and I think you also have experience with
a lot of netsight versions from the past.

Or did the problems just started now with 4.3, like at Geoffrey?

I have just very few customers which are using snmp redirection, but all
with high latency WAN/VPN networks, where I thought it is normal.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Markus

Hi,

In my lab.

Server (virtual appliance) and remote desktop on the same vlan/ip network.

A 24ports switch same vlan/ip network, flexview interface summary :
- with redirection : 30secondes
- without redirection : 2secondes

Can you explain the difference with your formula ?
At customer site with 30 chassis dfe with 5-7 boards it is unusable.
Policy Manager is affected ...

Hello,

how long is the round-trip time between you or the netsight server and the
device?

There are many snmp requests going on if you try to retrieve port
information from a switch for many ports.

Let's say 480 snmp requests for 10 stats about 48 ports.

480x 1ms = 480 ms to get the information from switches within a LAN.

If your client is remote with a round-trip time of 120ms to netsight or
netsight to device, that makes

480x 120ms = 57,6 seconds until information is retrieved.

This is not a problem or issue of netsight.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards,

Markus

Hello,

We are testing the latest Netsight (4.3.0.94). When we enable the SNMP
redirection, the display for ports or Vlan information of a switch is very
long. When we disable the SNMP redirection, all is coming as usual.

Has everyone seen the same problem ?
