Two reasons:
1. Holding lots of mail in OE5 or Entourage slows the programme
down, quite considerably by some reports.
2. There are concerns that the database in OE5/Entourage has a
slight risk of catastrophic corruption that causes total loss of
data. I have a theory (totally unproven, but it sounds good to me!)
that this may be due to the very frequent disk access required in
maintaining, accessing & searching such a database that is used to
hold addresses, rules, mail etc all together. The possibilities of
any one of these disk transactions may be very very small, but when
multiplied by the many millions of accesses the chance of some
corruption happening increase. Moving the mail into Filemaker reduces
this risk because disk access is only happening when the mail is
being moved or searched, rather than with every mail check etc.
