Sorry for almost summarizing the thread, but I wanted to quote all the
pertinent postings to comment on them.

I just realized something that bothers me... In my informal testing, whose
results I quoted above, I was searching the "From" field. Throughout this
discussion I had assumed that the "From" field was indexed, hence the
fantastically fast results of the window filter. I had thought that Dan had
said this, but could not come up with a message from him that would have
given me this thought. I finally tracked the creation of that impression to
a post by Barry, which, since it made perfect sense, I just accepted.

But I just realized that the same field was searched using Advanced Find.
The results of the Advanced Find and the window filter are wildly different.
Why the discrepancy? Is the "From" field indexed? If it is, does Advanced
Find not use the index as efficiently as the window filter does? Would we
experience the same searching speed on an indexed "Message Body" that I
experienced on a presumably indexed "From" field?

I don't think the time savings would be worth the increase in the size of
the database if that were the case.
