Think it through: Links are _two-way_. They are not simply a property of the
message: they are evidence of a two-way connection to the other object. If
the copy copied so-called "links" to a third object (say, a contact) but
that third object doesn't show links to the copied message, only to the
original message, then it wouldn't be a true link. It would be a lie. Now
_that_ would be a bug. And you really can't expect a simple copy to also do
a dynamic two-way link to the third object.

Link it to the original message and follow the links from there.

I approve of the system chosen by the developers. Unless it's somehow
possible to do a real two-way link, you shouldn't show something as a link
that isn't. And it may not be easy to do another link (or maybe 17 different
two-way links, if your message has 17 links) when you make a simple copy.
