The upgrade to office 2001 was very expensive for what it was. I want to run
OS X, but those kind of prices certainly won't endear me to good old
Microsoft.
Also it seems to me very clear that those prices will undoubtedly slow down
the conversion rate.
Entourage was a new feature in Office 2001, but the Word and Excel parts
were boring. Those applications appear essentially complete without
completely changing their character yet Microsoft needs big incremental
revenue streams.

have to ask what it is that Microsoft or even computer manufacturers will be
selling.
Its interesting to speculate what portion of Microsoft's revenues are
upgrades of existing software, Office, Windows/98/2000/NT as compared to new
sales. I'd hazard a guess that upgrades have historically been a big
percentage.
I've always upgraded to new versions as asap because the features have been
exciting, as with the move to OS X. However I have uninstalled excel 2001
and its hard to tell the difference in which of the last two versions of
Word I use, other than a few bug fixes.
