You make a good case for the main identity situation; I don't know offhand
how to check for main identity, but I will take a look. I think, in general,
it would be good to allow the user to pick which of the two contacts to
merge into. I ran into a number of situations where the second contact had
irreplaceable and non-copiable characteristics. Another such case is where
Entourage has been tracking history, e.g., the times you last sent to or
received from this person. When that occurred, I usually manually edited the
name of one of the contacts to reverse the sort order! Having the ability to
specify "Merge first into second" or "Merge second into first" would be good
also. I can't say as it is high on my priority list, though. The thing is,
once you've imported your contacts and removed all the duplicates by
merging, duplicates rarely occur. I have not needed the script since I
finally got it working and ran it!
