Thanks for the idea, William. I immediately reinstalled the IntelliMouse
software, added the tilde, and restarted. Still the weird long pause in
Word, yet all's well in the other programs.
I'm convinced it must be some Word extension, or a pref. I'm fishing around
in there now...
