Jim,
I don't understand your "problem". :)
My cursor behaves just like you are describing yours. However, if you look
closer you should find that you can reposition those columns which display
the hand cursor. Just click and drag those column headers across the header
bar and you have reorganized your message pane.
I have two headers, link and status, which display the arrow cursor. These I
can't move. All the others have the hand cursor and I can reposition them,
and thus their columns.
