Nonetheless it has been reported, infrequently but consistently, in both OE
and Entourage for the last year or more. There are several "slow typing"
threads in the archives.

I would agree.

I've attempted, at times, to figure it out. Given that it happens rarely it
is difficult to run with say, no non-Apple extensions for weeks, never being
sure if you've fixed it or just that the big wheel hasn't turned around yet.

Doubtful, considering I've seen it on a box-stock RevA iMac and my Rube
Goldberg of a 7600, with Mac it's a Powerbook.

Nope.

No, I've checked other apps when this occurs, they seem to run normally.

True enough, but as I said above, and as you probably well know,
troubleshooting a very intermittent problem is time consuming and results
are difficult to quantify. I don't really expect to see this given more
attention than it's getting right now, I'm sure the Microsoft Mac team is
hard at work carbonizing the Office suite and it's doubtful this problem
will follow to a wholly new architecture. It does exist though, and to
people that have experienced it I can say that I've learned that a reboot
fixes it, sometimes for weeks or months at a time. Beyond that I'm willing
to let it go unless someone reports they've isolated what they think causes
it.

Again, I agree.
