Title: Re: Slow Speed?
9.1 seemed to speed my system up a bit. More RAM will help if you are running lots of applications and they swap. A faster disk will of course help across the board, but they are expensive and power hungry. The default drives are usually 5400 RPM, but a 7200 RPM drive can be installed. You might also check the size of the disk cache – larger is better, of course. Beyond that, it is hard to judge what would help. What applications are slow? You may be able to speed things up by disabling unused extensions.

Jim’s description of the “slow-down” is consistent with my symptoms.  Speaking of a lack of speed, I’m using a G3 Powerbook with OS 9.04.  Are there any effective ways to speed it up?  I’ve tried adding RAM (now at 192 MB) and it didn’t do much.  What about an accelerator card or a faster hard disk for this laptop?
