I think it might be related to the Junk Mail Filter.  I have run into
one case where an extremely bad formatted mail message header (missing
subject line and message ID lines were incomplete) could cause the Junk
Mail Filter to crash while downloading the message and processing it.
In the instance that I ran and we are investigating, disabling the JMF
allowed the message to be downloaded and then we could test against the
same message to verify that it was the problem.

Offline I communicated with Sherman because his scenario was very
similar to what we were able to track down.  This is not very common at
all.
