Yes. So you can get at it easily.

Yes.

Large, but empty and quick. It's a sensible way to manage your database,
since the space will fairly soon fill up again with new messages. Only if
you really need the hard disk space NOW, then do a Typical rebuild to
compact the database. (For example, if you intend to remove all attachments
from now on, then you won't need all that space - go ahead and compact. But
it's not great for the database to get rebuilt every few days or anything
like that.) It takes some getting used to, but it really is sensible
normally not to compact, just go on deleting regularly.

Never automatically. It's up to you to keep an eye on it. But the files can
get up to just below 2GB before crisis. It's a good idea to keep them below
1GB, I suppose, and for speed and memory to less than that. You're fine with
your 135 MB.

You can use an archiver and keep deleting.
