As I mentioned in my earlier post (subject: "Cannot import Claris Emailer
data"), I did indeed try rebuilding my Emailer database. I tried both
normal and advanced rebuilds. It is a relatively small database, only about
200KB. I doubt that it is corrupt. It shows no problems in Emailer. I
also tried rebuilding the Entourage database. None of these operations
enabled me to import.

I eventually succeeded in transferring the database, by using Emailer to
redirect all the messages to myself, and then downloading them into
Entourage. So I bypassed the Entourage import function, which I could not
get to work.

The above observations about misbehavior in the Entourage text file import
dialog have absolutely nothing to do with my Emailer database. I know this
because I observed the bugs when testing a small manually generated test
file.

Yes, I discovered this workaround by myself. But I hope the Entourage
developers are aware that this freeze-on-selection is an issue that needs to
be fixed. Malformed messages should not cause a freeze. BTW, I do have the
"allow network access... when reading complex HTML" option disabled.

I am doubtful that these issues are caused by a corrupt import. Bear in
mind that I did successfully import my Emailer database into the "Test
Drive" version of Entourage.

It seems more likely to me that something got fupduck when I deinstalled and
tried to clean out the Test Drive files, prior to installing the commercial
version of Office X. My own experience, and recollections of
recommendations from Microsoft about Office 98, led me to try to remove all
traces of the earlier software before reinstalling. But there were gobs of
prefs and data files from the Test Drive, and I don't know if I deleted them
all, or if I deleted something that should have remained.

Yes, I did.
