At the risk of being naively optimistic I may have found a solution to the
problem.

I called Microsoft tech support. (Always a very positive, professional
experience.) The guy didn't have an official explanation. My problem wasn't
in their database. But he suggested that I try re-installing SR1. I did, and
so far (fingers crossed) it seems to have fixed the problem.

If anyone else is experiencing weirdness with Entourage X after SR1, you
might try doing the same.

He also recommended installing SR1 _after_ 10.1.5. Said he personally had
some wankiness with Entourage that he attributed to the 10.1.5 installation
process. He went back and reinstalled SR1 and that solved his problem.
