Just possibly you have so many folders that it gets jammed: perhaps it tries to do them all at once. Make copies of the messages you are going to test-delete and put them in another folder for safe-keeping. Can you reduce your schedule to do this for just one folder, and see how it works there? If it works, make another set of copies from the reserved set of messages, put one set back in, and also add another folder. keep adding until you hit a limit, and please tell us what those limits are: for both folders and message numbers.
