FWIW, I tried that, spent the money, am no better off.

I had 512 Mb RAM on my iMac (10.1.5 and 9.2.2, with 80 Gb hard disk) and
trying to work with "Aqua" was far more like "Molassa".

Excited at the prospect of *any* speed improvements I doubled my RAM to 1 Gb
-- with absolutely nil noticeable improvement. This cost me $450.

There may well have been some slight improvement but nowt noticeable.

Btw, "Jaguar" will only have to move at a snail's pace to be a huge leap
forward...
