Canadians talk the same way (I'm Canadian though living in the US). It's a
meaningless statement. Of course each country has its own currency. Those
few countries whose name for the currency happens to be "dollar" seem to
take it as a special indignity when their dollar is worth less than someone
else's dollar, whereas nobody ever said "But that's 10 times as many
francs!" or "Twice as many marks!" So what? it's still worth the same thing.
Now if you have to add on 30% _over_ the official rate of exchange, that's a
completely different matter.
