I've been debating this myself. Part of the problem with the current
approach is that since you may only specify one category each for sync/do
not sync, we need to add explicit categories to control synchronization. If
the conduit manager instead allowed us to specify a list of categories to be
synced or a list of those not to be synced, then we would not need to add
artificial sync/no_sync categories.

This will then provide a basis for better control of what information goes
where when we have multiple devices to synchronize.
