I just wanted to follow up on a reply that Paul Berkowitz made to this post
(I've lost Paul's reply, sorry.)

IIRC, Paul has suggested some methods for setting categories in relation to
this post, and he has stressed the order in which categories are assigned.

It is that point that I'd like to address, and see if anyone else has the
same frustrations.

The resulting color of an item assigned multiple categories depends on the
order in which those categories are applied. Okay, fine.

However, the ordering will be different depending on HOW you add more
categories.

For example, if I am looking at a list of messages, on the right, and I have
the Category column showing, and if I click the category name then I am
presented with a pop-up list of my defined categories. When I choose a
category from the list, it is inserted into the category list (as displayed
in the category column) IN FRONT of the other categories already assigned to
the item, and the item takes on the color of the now last-assigned category.

If, however, I control-click or menu-choose "Assign Categories", then the
categories are listed in the category column alphabetically and the color of
the item is the alphabetically first category.

Am I missing a "feature" here, or is the assignment of categories operating
differently in differing views a bug?

Gary

P.S. Yeah, put the checkbox back. It's a much more logical way than 'fake'
categories. And while you're doing that, please fix the Category window by
allowing a sort by color.
