I am wondering if any of you have ever felt a need for -- or developed
method of -- determining which rule put a message in its ending location?

Recently, as I've read suggestions on this list (primarily from Mickey S.
and Allen W.) and other places for developing rules, I've been experimenting
a bit, and find myself occasionally wondering "what rule put this message
here?".

I'll share my simple method, which seems to be fairly useful for testing,
but may not be the best long term solution.

What I've done is to create a new category for each rule I want to test, and
then have the rule set the message to that category. It's a bit cumbersome,
but it at least allows some means of testing rules. The limitation here (a
limitation of Entourage?) is that I can't compound categories via rules. If
a message gets several rules applied, and each rule sets a category, the
previous categories set by rules are replaced, not added.

So, if you've developed any other methods, I'd very much like to hear about
it. (Script running is out, of course, because only one script can run on
via rule...another weak area of E2001, IMHO.)

Thanks,

Gary
