This is an interesting question! I believe the abilities you are looking for
are things that will eventually find their way into Entourage v X; however,
as you no doubt know, there will be no further development of E2001.

>From experimentation, it appears that you may be mistaken that rules cannot
assign multiple categories. Simply have multiple "Set category" steps in the
rule. And, if you have multiple rules acting on the same message, each rule
setting a category, in Entourage v X the categories are additive, not
subtractive: the message gets all the categories. Is that not the case in
E2001?

What I have explicitly asked for is an indication, in error messages
generated by scripts triggered by rules, as to what rule, or what script,
created the error.

I would like to see some better debugging aids for rules and rule scripts.
They can get complex! One suggestion (to the developers) is to have a trace
log that can be turned on for debugging purposes. Each time a rule fires, it
would log itself in the log file, along with the subject and ID of the
message it is handling. That way, you could find a message in the log file
and trace back to see what rule or rules acted on it. Obviously, you would
not want this log once things were running well, so it is imperative that
you can turn it off.

I think your idea of tracking rules by categories is inspired, and as far as
I can see, it should work in EvX. If it does not work in E2001, I'm sorry,
but I don't have anything better to offer.
