This is a good idea, Gary.  Another easy way that I test rules is by adding
an extra action to each rule: "Display dialog".  In the Dialog text, I
simply type in the name of the corresponding rule.  Then, when the rule
runs, a dialog box shows up telling me exactly which rule applied an action
to a message.  Obviously, this wouldn't work well for applying rules to
multiple messages, but it works well for testing with one message.
