0.0.0.0 may work to "turn off" TCP/IP, I don't know for sure. However,
10.10.10.10 usually solves such problems and offers some unique testing
abilities, as it directs the Mac to make itself the network.

This is very useful for testing TCP/IP apps, especially things like
FileMaker network testing and the like, where you need a TCP/IP connection
to get results, but may not have another machine to "host" files.

(I learned this method from the old FileMaker 4 help files, and have used it
frequently ... I have a saved TCP/IP configuration with these settings ...
for testing or "cancelling" my outside TCP/IP connection. If you have
FileMaker, you can still find this in the Help files, usually under
something like 'Testing WebCompanion on a TCP/IP network' or something
similar...just search those terms.)

I do not know how it would affect Entourage and scheduled mail checks, or
even whether it will be useful to the OP in the current context, but I
thought I'd add it to the ongoing record here.

Happy Holidays everyone.
