1) In searching the archive for this list I saw mention of a script that would set all the Entourage “Synch this contact with Palm organizer?” flags to YES and / or NO in one fell swoop! I have over 2,000 contacts and I have not been very good about paying attention to this little check box.
Does anyone know how to access this script (I’ve never used scripts before)? Any other suggestions for wholesale updates of standard fields in Entourage??
2) I had purchased (but never installed) Filemaker Mobile. Now that, thanks to y’all, I have a working machine, I thought I’d try and put this other tool to use. Bad idea.
The players in this drama are FilemakerPro (v5.03), Filemaker Mobile (v1.0) and Palm Desktop (v.4.0).
ACT I: Attempting to install Filemaker Mobile results in the (not helpful) error message: “Palm Desktop 2.5 or greater must be present in order to install.” I exclaim, “But I’m running Palm Desktop 4.0! Why won’t you install?”
ACT II: After hours of searching and calling I discover that:
- there is a known disconnect between Filemaker Mobile (v1.0) and Palm Desktop (v4.0).
- the patch that fixed this – Filemaker Mobile (v2.0) - has been discontinued and now you must pay $50 to upgrade to Filemaker Mobile 2.1 which would be fine except that Filemaker Mobile (v2.1) will not interface with my FilemakerPro (v5.03), requiring a $150 upgrade to Filemaker Pro (v6.0)
- further, there was conflicting information from Filemaker staff – tech support said YES, customer service said NO - about the ability of Filemaker Mobile (v2.0) to interface with FilemakerPro (v5.03)
- the alternate suggestions was to roll-back my Palm Desktop software to version 2.63, which I have downloaded but not yet installed for fear for screwing up the newly functioning Entourage / Kyocera synching
So, do I:
- roll-back the Palm Desktop software?
- get forced into spending $200 I don’t have right now for Filemaker upgrades?
- receive suggestions of alternate solutions or software that will allow me to store and access Filemaker data on my Palm OS Kyocera phone without compromising my Entourage synching?
- get referred to Mac-friendly Palm or Filemaker user groups?
- get kicked out of this group for going too far off-topic?
