Hi Robert, I have never synced my 6035 with Entourage, but I can shed a little light on at least some of your problems.
The message you mentioned (below) is because the Palm Desktop software comes configured with software updaters for the most recent Palm OSs. However, the 3.5.3 release is not compatible with your phone. If you go into your Palm Desktop application folder, there's a folder called "Palm OS Updates". Just move the contents of that folder to some other folder, and then find and delete the 3.5.3 updater on your Palm. I had no end of trouble syncing the 6035 on MacOS 9. It seems that the USB stuff was unreliable. My troubles went away upon switching to OS X. However, I have not tried syncing with Entourage so I don't know what problems may lurk there.
