Now I'm even MORE puzzled. My folder structure, mail server configs, etc.
are the same on all three Macs. In each instance, inside the

~/Documents/Microsoft User Data

folder there is a folder called "Saved Attachments". I didn't create this
folder, nor did I ever save things to it intentionally. I HAVE decompressed
attachments from mailed messages, and perhaps that's how things get into
that folder.

Actually, I have it located precisely at the same point in the hierarchy on
each of the three Macs, and my username is the same on all three, so I don't
know how you inferred this.

Now if only I could figure out what that "something" is. Nigel Stranger
asked if I'm running a rule that invokes a script. I do have such, using
Spamsieve. Since my ISP filters my mail, I'm going to try turning that off
and see if it solves the problem. I'll post my findings.

Diane suggested using an IMAP server. Unfortunately, my ISP doesn't offer
this, and I'm trying to keep my database of composed and sent messages the
same on all three Macs as well, so that wouldn't be a solution anyway.

Thanks much for everyone's suggestions.
