It wouldn't have mattered. The Road Runner SMTP server would not have let
you log on and use the server no matter how you had the machine ordered. You
had to be connecting from a Road Runner connection and that's the bottom
line.

Use a SMTP server that is not connection dependent. In your case, you could
have simply used the one for mac.com which I think  is smtp.mac.com
