Oops. In email, Entourage (or any email client) can't allow a single period to remain at the beginning of a line since that means "end of message" and would truncate the rest. So it duplicates the period to preserve the rest of the message. at the receiving end Entourage should convert that back to one period again, built it doesn't. That's why you see two of them. It's wrong. In grep
    
    . = any character

by indenting, that shouldn't get doubled this time! Anyway, I just typed one period there - that's the symbol in grep.
