That's not fun! Well, the good news is that we here can learn from your
suffering. We now know to set the pref to not leave mail at all, then
collect mail one final time (at least) on Office X, before launching and
using the new E'rage.

Diane, any chance you're writing up import tips?

FWIW, I keep the Progress window open at all times. I can see the # of
emails that are being counted and if the # is too high, stop the downloads.
