I've only followed a few of the posts in this long thread. Enough to remind me that it's a debate with no right or wrong answers. There are valid reasons for people to prefer either plain text or HTML in forums and lists. In theory, there's a way to make both camps happy. But it might require an extension to the HTML standards (or maybe XML), and internet clients that were enabled to use those extensions. The idea would be to have tags that track the authorship of comments within a run of text. Example: <author = "Costello">Well, then who's on first?</author> <author = "Abbott">Yes.</author> <author = "Costello">I mean the fellow's name.</author> <author = "Abbott">Who.</author> Then the client software could provide the user with options to display the text in various ways. If the user wants HTML, with colors or indenting, that could be one option. Or the user could choose plain text, with colors or leading quote characters, etc. There are certainly problems to solve, and maybe the toughest is how to provide a simple user interface for editing messages and adding new comments. -- Julian Vrieslander <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- To unsubscribe: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> archives: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.letterrip.com/> old-archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/entourage-talk%40lists.boingo.com/>
